Bob King is deputy managing editor at POLITICO. King came to POLITICO as deputy energy editor in January 2011 after 17 years as an environmental reporter and editor in Florida. He became the energy and transportation editor the following year and a Pro deputy editor in 2015.

As a reporter, he won awards on a beat dominated by coverage of the $12 billion (and rising) federal-state effort to restore the Everglades while reporting on way too many hurricanes, South Florida’s crumbling levees, the region’s dwindling coral reefs and the invasion of Africanized bees and Burmese pythons. Like the rest of his Post colleagues, King helped cover Palm Beach County's gusher of wacky political news, including the “butterfly ballot” presidential recount drama in 2000. As an editor, he oversaw a succession of beats such as the environment, elections, state government, a corruption-plagued county commission and one of the nation’s largest school districts.

Before arriving in West Palm Beach, King was a reporter at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, covering crime, the environment, transportation and politics, including the first political campaign by the then-unknown Katherine Harris.

King is originally from Doylestown, Pa., and a graduate of Penn State University, where he learned to be a journalist on the staff of the independent, student-run Daily Collegian.
